After
Denmark, Belgium has the highest labour costs in the European Union,
according to a study by the German Macroeconomic Policy Institute (IMK).
The study shows that in 2013, the average private sector salary in
Belgium was €41.2 per hour.
The European Union average is less than €23.9 per hour. In Denmark, this figure was €41.4 per hour, and in Sweden, €41 per hour. France follows in fourth place, with a salary cost of €34.9 per hour.
Belgium also came in second place in 2012, with an average salary cost of €40.4 per hour, which indicates that labour costs continue to rise.
In the industrial sector, Belgium is even the most expensive country in the EU, with a salary cost of €42.7 per hour.
