The German government is proposing jail terms for doctors who bend their prescribing patterns to commercial pressures, as part of a new anti-corruption law aimed at the health sector. At the end of July, the federal cabinet approved a draft law that needs little translation — Gesetz zur Bekämpfung von Korruption im Gesundheitswesen. If it becomes law, and local sources say that is likely, then codes of conduct are going to be backed up by criminal law starting early next year.
